SAHAYTA

Aimed towards harnessing the potential of retird and experienced professionals of society, utilization of waste and generation of funds through public participation, Sahayta is a truly inspiring and one-of-its-kind model. If not only supplies free medical aid to the poor and needy, but also provides healthy food to pregnant ladies so as to help them give birth to a healthy offspring, resulting in a healthy nation. ‘Sahayta’ was founded by Shri Anil Bhandari in 1988 at the Govemment M. Y. Hospital, Indore which is having a capacity of 1400 beds. Aimed at alleviating the suffering of poor by providing free medical aid & related assistance ‘Sahayta’ today, with 18 branches in govemment hospitals of different cities, is a premiere example of selfless, dedicated work towards the betterment of the poor, daily treating 5500 patients. ‘Sahayata’ is a team comprising of more that 425 retired personnel and young volunteers. The organization receives monthly donations of Rs. 9.5 lacs bus provides help equivalent to Rs. 95 lacs a month. This is because Sahayta provides special medication brought from various established doctors to 36,000 patients which otherwise cost about Rs. 60 lacs. The MRI check up that cost Rs. 5000/- is carried out by the organization at half the price that is Rs. 2500/-. In the same way CT Scan and other facilities are also provided at very reasonable rates. Apart from this, every month high protein diet is provided to 700 poor women for 6 continuous months of their pregnancy. The diet provided not only helps them in remaining fully nourished during pregnancy but also convert unhealthy children growing up in their fetuses into healthy ones. Thus Sahayta save approximately Rs. 20-25 lacs of nation on each child that otherwise would have been spent on the unproductiveness and treatment of the mal-nutritioned child.

Another benevolent step taken recently in this direction was a meticulous set up of 5 Sahayta Dawakhana (Clinics) at Indore (M.P.). Various locations of these centres have been so planned that they are accessible within the vicinity of 3 kms from anywhere in the city. These Sahayta Clinics serve in every possible way to cure poor patients which also include supply of free medicines, free consultation and healthy food. All retired and esteemed doctors of Indore and nearby areas are providing their super-speciality guidance and services at these centres and everyday 650 patients are being treated and getting benefited out of it.

Sahayta is also known because of the Plastic Surgery camps organized by the organization every year. Padmashree Dr. Sharad Kumar Dixit from USA. Offers his valuable service free of cost. During last 8 years more than 2000 needy patients mostly from rural sections of Indore, Bhopal and nearby areas have been operated successfully. Every year 6-7 camps are also being conducted for blindness eradication, Intra ocular lens implantation is carried out free of cost. The organization has also taken the responsibility to make the district Cataract free and done 1700 operations in year 2000.

From free medicine distribution, investigation work, blood donation services, nutritious meal distribution, food packets to special surgery camps, the organization has kindled hope in the hearts of hundreds of people in distress.

Mahaveer Medical Equipment Bank

Recently, Shri Bhandari started the Mahaveer Medical Equipment Bank at Indore, under Bhandari Charitable Trust, with an initial investment of Rs 10,00,000. It will provide medical equipment like Medical beds,Oxygen Cylinders , Wheelchairs, Nebulizer Machine Susction Machin, Walker, Traction Equpment, Air bed, Water bed, Crecties etc. to deprived patients who can not afford expensive equipment during treatment at home, on loan basis. Five more branches are opened at Indore, Bhopal, Raipur, Vidisha, Jabalpur. Anather two more Branches are slated to open in Gwaliorl and Haridwar.

As a step towards nation building Shri Bhandari (Secretary of the Organizing committee) hosted a National Conference of the Association of Retired Judges of the Supreme Court  and High Court. Seminars on environment, media and judiciary system were conducted to stress the Role of Former Judges In Nation Building through Social Service.

Sadachaar Samiti

Shri Anil Bhandari has also been active in providing food to the needy without a single holiday, under the organization called Sadachaar Samiti. Started  in March 1989, the organization with his efforts has helped providing nourishment to the ma-Inutritioned & also to those who are unable to get their daily bread. It is through this man’s noble vision only that on an average 2200 food packets have been daily given to the needy. As if this was not enough, he extended help to 4000 poor people for different organizations, and their food necessities were fulfilled by providing them food grains and other eatables every month.

Indore Development Society

Indore Development Society, founded in 1994 Shri Bhandari has also made a strong mark in the lives of the needy. This organization provides financial help to those below poverty line, during open heart surgery, kidney transplant and other major surgeries that require a huge sum of money. The service has helped the timely surgical operations of more than 400 cases which costed more that a lac rupees each and under this Shri Bhandari once again showed his kind –heartedness by taking by care of all the essentials like blood, medicines etc. required during medication.

M.P. Kidney foundation

Life is not just about hardships and pain. It is worth living even when you have just one functioning kidney. This powerful message has been spread by the M.P. Kidney foundation during the sports week they organize specially for those who have donated or received a kidney. Started in 1996 due to the thoughtful vision of Shri Bhandari who is presently the treasurer of M.P. Kidney foundation, the organization has contributed immensely in making people aware of kidney related problems and donation. Average 4 slide shows in school, colleges, and institutes every month, camps in slum areas for check up and treatment, awareness program and the sports week, all have helped enlighten the general public in M.P. about kidney related diseases and how they can fight them.

Shri Vardhaman SevaKendra

As the General secretary of Shri Vardhaman SevaKendra, Shri Bhandari has been actively involved in providing medicines to TB patients specially those who can not afford to buy these medicines for themselves. More than 5500 patients have been given these life saving drugs. Apart from this, high protein diet given to pregnant ladies has also been beneficial for their health. The institute has been operating a drug de-addiction centre in the Govt. M.Y. hospital in Indore. The Vardhaman Seva Kendra also has been spreading the principles of Jainism among the masses. Since 12 years the institute has actively helped people below the poverty line in every possible way.

Shri Bhandari’s relentless efforts in making needy lives better have always brought a smile on numerous faces. Recently the Mega Health Camp organized for all the poor and downtrodden of Indore district that saw more than 25,000 patients being treated absolutely free of cost fro 3 days. Chief Co-ordinator Shri Bhandari with like-minded people expanded the initial idea of Member of Parliaments getting a sum of Rs. 8 lakhs to organize a health camp for a single block. The Collector and his team with help from NGO’s, nursing homes, private senior doctors, chemist association, pathology labs and others, were successful in organizing a Mega Health Camp for the whole district including not one bus 4 blocks which summer up to the market value of Rs. 1 crore 80 lakhs, much more than the initial sum of 8 lakhs. With support from 300 Doctors and 400 paramedical staff, more than 25,000 needy people were treated, more than 21,000 got free medication, above 2,500 X-rays were done, 1,800 sonoraphies & 500 minor operations took place at various hospitals, 6,000 other investigations and 52 poor patients were selected for open heart surgery.

With his chronic penchant to serve the society with his welfare deeds, Shri Bhandari never believed in resting on laurels, Seeing the plight of disabled and poor students, he took the lead and organized a  3 days health camp. In this camp, 800 handicapped students including deaf and dumb, mentally retarded, blind and physically disabled were supplied with the necessary treatment and equipments. In 5 day camp not only for students but for the disabled people of the entire Indore District including all the four blocks. The camp was attended by 6,000 people and under this 452 tricycles, 350 callipers, 325 hearing aids and 45 wheel chairs were distributed to those who were nedy and handicapped. At the same time, 450 surgeries were successfully conducted with the help of all private hospitals of Indore.
